Advertising has been around since about 3000 B.C.E. Babylonian clay tablets have been found inscribed with the names of merchants. the ancient Egyptians used some form of paper that was much more portable than previously used clay tablets to advertise the arrivals of ships carrying various goods. The ancient Romans hung stone and terra-cotta signs outside their shops to advertise the goods sold inside. in 1450 Johannes Gutenberg came up with the invention of printing which gave people the idea of distributing printed advertisements. The growing popularity of news papers in the 1700s led to the further development of printing in advertising. Advertising took on a new role in the 1800s with the Industrial Revolution. In the 1920s, radio advertising seemed to boost product sales. advertising got its first glimpse of television in 1939 at the New York World's Fair. ( Norman J. Medoff & Barbra Kaye)

advertising techniques
Today advertising is seen just about everywhere. It is used widely throughout the world in many different forms and techniques. Advertising is used today on television, radio, billboards, newspapers, internet, vehicles, and even pops up on our phones. Its is still used for the same purpose, to promote a product. Not much has changed about advertising. For example, in the 1950s and 60s, famous television stars would make commercials about someones product to get consumers to buy it. Today we still use that same concept. Our society uses celebrities to promote and advertise the products that they want people to buy. Although much has not changed about advertisements there was still some type of change. Today most companies resort to product placement instead of buying commercial time. This is where companies pay to have their product used or visible within a TV show or a movie. Today advertising is different from advertising then because we have technology and resources that they didn't have many decades ago.
Later:
I predict that advertising will take it to the next level. I think that one day soon if it hasn't happened already, that there will be advertisement in video games. I think that advertises will find a way to promote their product in every way imaginable. Future of Advertising
